Periodontal Disease Treatment

Our office provides many different treatments to help alleviate the negative effects of periodontal disease for patients of most levels of severity.

For patients with periodontal disease (gum disease), a deep cleaning may be recommended with follow-up cleanings every 3-4 months. Deep cleanings are a more intensive procedure to treat gum disease. Unlike a regular cleaning, a deep cleaning addresses the areas below the gum line. The process involves cleaning the tooth roots and smoothing out the surfaces to promote healing and gum health.

For some uncontrolled situations, we offer more advanced gum treatment to eliminate the infection and help restore gum health.

Arestin

Arestin is a localized antibiotic treatment used to help manage gum disease in areas with deeper periodontal pockets. It is often placed after deep cleaning to help reduce harmful bacteria below the gumline. Because gum disease can progress silently without pain, treatments like Arestin can be important in controlling infection and supporting healthier gum tissue. It does not replace regular cleanings or home care, but it can be a helpful part of periodontal therapy for patients who need extra support in treating gum disease.

Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal maintenance is a specialized dental cleaning recommended for patients who have been treated for gum disease. Unlike a regular cleaning, periodontal maintenance focuses on controlling bacteria above and below the gumline, monitoring gum pocket depths, and removing plaque buildup. Regular periodontal maintenance helps protect the foundation that supports your teeth and allows your dental team to catch early signs of infection.
